Four Etiquette Faux Pas You Should Never Commit In A Dispensary

The idea of visiting a dispensary is fairly new for many people. Visiting a real store where you can buy cannabis legally is a strange feeling and one that may take you a little time to get used to. One way to ensure you settle in and become a valued, regular customer who gets great service from the budtenders is to adhere to proper dispensary etiquette. Here are a few specific etiquette faux pas to avoid committing.

#1. Hogging all of the budtender's time.

The budtenders are there to help you. If you ask them to recommend a strain that will make you feel energized and alleviate your headaches, they'll be happy to do so. However, it's considered poor etiquette to demand too much of their time. They have other customers to attend to, too! Have some idea what you are looking for when you step into the store so that you can ask the budtender for specific information rather than needing to have a 30-minute conversation about each strain on the menu. Most dispensaries post their menu online, so you can familiarize yourself with the selections before you visit and streamline this interaction.

#2. Discussing illegal activity.

Even though marijuana is now legal in some states, it is still illegal on the federal level, and as such, taking it into illegal states is a very bag (illegal) idea. Do not discuss such actions inside the dispensary, even if you have no intention of actually committing them. Dispensaries are on rocky ground legally, and such talk may put them in hot water if the wrong person hears it.

#3: Haggling

Dispensaries set their prices based on the amount of profit they need to make on each product in order to stay open. The prices are not open to haggling. If you are on a tight budget, ask the budtender if the store is planning any promotions that you can take advantage of. But don't ask if you can get a $30 bag for $25.

#4: Consuming cannabis on the property.

Whether you buy an edible or a bag of loose flower, remember that you cannot consume it in-house. Cannabis use is not allowed in public, even in dispensaries, and you could get the dispensary in trouble with the law if you violate this rule.

If you avoid the above faux pas when visiting a dispensary, you will be treated like a great guest and will be welcomed back.
